Controversy at the start of the Belize Elite Basketball League season 2023 may have buttressed support and revitalized participation among the public. Let’s be real, we Belizeans love a good controversy. But the BEBL has somehow waded the media’s tumultuous waters long enough to survive to continue a season of high-energy basketball. The games have been spectacular so far.
Week 8 begins with games this Friday, March 17 – and marks the second half of the season. The BEBL in a social media release of the upcoming games schedules announced that all would be rematches going forward. Giving bruised teams to regain some pride.
The Running Rebels have been raising hell in the north of late, they will face Western Ballers on Friday night in Sugah City as the first game in the second half of the regular season.
Another crowd favorite, and second overall at this Week 7 halfway, the Hurricanes, will be challenged by the Punta Gorda Panthers.
The Dream Ballers are at the top of the league at the halfway point with 5 wins, 2 losses, and a perfect home record. They are ahead of a crowd favorite, the Defenders (number 4 overall), who they are set to play on Saturday night. The Belmopan Red Taigaz and the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will also go at it on Saturday night.
The public is welcomed to come out for a night of electrifying basketball played by some of the brightest stars in Belizean basketball today. See you there.
