    J Monie

Joseph Lopez, better known as J Monie was born and raised on the Southside of Belize City, in the St. Martin’s Community. He displayed a love for music from a young age as a result of being exposed to the art form by his brother – who is a producer, videographer, beatmaker.

J Monie told us, “He’s my idol and ever since, I loved music and wanted to be a musician and then in Primary school, Standard 6, I recorded my first song. It was me and Chad Wade, my brother friends/coworkers recorded it for us. That when I was 11.”

Since then, J Monie has been making a name for himself within the Belizean Dancehall scene. He took a break from the music in his teens to focus and school, and ultimately like many Belizean young men, spent time in the streets.

He never stopped freestyling for friends and in 2019 made the link with Belize City based super producer, Echo Middleton. The rest? A wrap.

J Monie said, “When I was introduce to TNS and RMR they then recorded my second song, Guidance, and I did a video for it. I then started to record more and more songs and I started taking it more serious, doing more videos with different artists, and doing songs with different producers and studios; and that’s where it lies. I am still working and progressing learning more everyday. Mad and Bad. Fully. 3rd Eye!”
